If you lose your residence card, what should you do?

Mid to long -term residences must carry their residence card to show them any time while they are staying in Japan.

In addition, personal information is on the residence card, so there is a possibility it will be abused.

If you lose the card in Japan

1.Go to the police as soon as possible.

They will issue a ” certificate of lost property (遺失物(いしつぶつ)届け出(とどけで)証明書(しょうめいしょ))” or ” theft report certificate（盗難(とうなん)届出(とどけで)証明書(しょうめいしょ)）”

※You should bring your passport instead of residence card.

2.Go to The Immigration Bureau.

Show them the ” certificate of lost property” or “theft report certificate”.

They will issue the new residence card.

What you need is

・Application for re-issuance of a residence card（在留(ざいりゅう)カード再発(さいはっ)行(こう)申請書(しんせいしょ)）

・Your picture (head shot)

・” certificate of lost property (遺失物(いしつぶつ)届け出(とどけで)証明書(しょうめいしょ))” or ” theft report certificate（盗難(とうなん)届出(とどけで)証明書(しょうめいしょ)）”

You have to apply in 14 days since you notice that you have lost your residence card.

If you lose the card in overseas.

1.Go to the police first as well. And get a certificate what they will issue.

If you have special re-entry permission(みなし再入国許可), you can enter Japan without your residence card. But when you go to the Immigration Bureau, you will need a certificate which police issued.

2. When you come back to Japan, go to the Immigration Bureau.

They will issue you the new residence card.

Application for certification of the re-entry permit deadline(再入国(さいにゅうこく)許可(きょか)期限(きげん)証明(しょうめい)願(ねがい))

In the overseas.

Some times, you will be asked to show your residence card, when you get in an airplane or stay at a hotel.

When you need the residence card in like above situations, you can apply a certificate of re-entry permission by The Immigration Bureau. The certificate is called certificate of the re-entry permit deadline(再入国(さいにゅうこく)許可(きょか)期限(きげん)証明(しょうめい)).

You need to ask your families ,co-workers ,your friends ,lowers or someone who lives in Japan for applying.

But there are 2 things you have to prepare in the overseas.

・The lost or theft certificate which police in overseas issued.

・When you ask some one except your families you need prepare a proxy.

The Immigration Bureau will give your deputy The certificate of the re-entry permit deadline(再入国(さいにゅうこく)許可(きょか)期限(きげん)証明(しょうめい)).

Ask your deputy to send you the certificate immediately.
